Vespucci Group

Brand identity, podcast design system and website for a media company at the intersection of journalism and entertainment.

In 2021, No Ideas approached me about a potential collaboration. Vespucci Group, a new media company at the intersection of journalism and entertainment, had enlisted them to design its website and brand identity. Vespucci's innovative business model involves licensing journalistic stories from reporters, transforming those stories into podcasts, and leveraging the podcasts to sell film rights. Our challenge was to create a cohesive brand identity that could seamlessly extend into a system for podcast artwork, out-of-home advertising, and a bespoke website.

Working closely with No Ideas, I contributed to the development and refinement of Vespucci’s brand identity. Through extensive collaboration, we explored numerous design possibilities before settling on a modular system. This approach allowed each podcast artwork to feature its own typeface and color palette while maintaining the core Vespucci identity, rooted in the aesthetics of filmmaking.

Exploration

Three rounds of Vespucci brand exploration, R1 to R3: wordmarks, podcast artwork, colour studies and layouts

Design System

The final podcast design system enables Vespucci’s internal designers to choose from a predefined color palette and hundreds of typefaces, allowing each podcast to have a unique identity while remaining cohesive under the Vespucci brand.

Twelve podcast covers from the Vespucci design system, each with its own typeface and colour: Paperless, Guarding Saddam, Darine Stern, @War, Chighali, Night Walk, The Riverkeepers, Secret Court, Yellow Cake, Tony Schwartz, Malta and The Girl In Red

Website and Brand Assets

The website design for Vespucci focused on creating a bespoke solution that served as both an archive for their podcasts and a digital business card to introduce new clients to their work. We prioritized an intuitive user experience, incorporating a clean, modular layout that aligned with their brand identity. Bold visuals and dynamic storytelling highlighted their projects, while clear navigation allowed seamless exploration of their podcast archive. The result was a website that effectively communicated Vespucci’s mission and showcased their innovative approach to prospective clients.
